Johan Jeremias Lange

The first member of the Lange family we have knowledge of is Johan Jeremias Lange. He was born in Breslau, Silesia, Germany on 27 Aug 1719. He emigrated to Stockholm, Sweden where he died on 8 Oct 1794. He is thought to be the father of Christian Frederick Lange, and the Patriarch of our Lange Line.

The next Lange we come into contact with is Christian Frederick Lange b.1781 d.1830. We are told he was the father of our well documented Carl Gottleib Lange.

Carl Gottlieb Lange was born on 26 Dec 1816 in Stockholm/Tyska. He emigrated to America some time before 1840. because on August 8 of that year he married Sarah E. Ashley, the daughter of John J. and Diana Ashley, in Catskill, New York. Carl Gottlieb Lange was Bernard Barry Lenhart,Jr's maternal great-great-grandfather.

Carl and Sarah stayed in New York where three sons were born, Charles John, Frederick W. and George E. Some time before 1853 the family moved to Rochester, Minnesota, where a daughter, Maria Augusta was born. Our family line follows Charles John Lange, our maternal great-grandfather.

Charles John Lange met and married Quiett (Etta) Carpenter, they were married in Rochester Minnesota on 14 Sep 1865. They raised five boys and one girl. They were George Frederick b.10 May 1866 d.Sep 1866; Estella May,b.13 Jul 1869, d.23 Dec 1947 in Halstead,KS; Frederick Preston, b.28 Oct 1872, d.1942 in Rochester MN; Edward Charles, b.14 Apr 1874, d.11 Nov 1937 in San Francisco, CA; Walter Waters, b.13 Jan 1877 d. Feb 1962 in White Bear Lake, MN and John Paul, b 17 May 1880, d.12 Apr 1896 in St. Paul MN.

Our line follow our grandfather Edward Charles Lange. Edward Charles traveled to the San Francisco, CA Bay Area. He met and married Mable Woodward Adams on June 23, 1903, in San Francisco, CA. Edward Charles was a pioneer motorcycle policeman with the San Francisco Police Department. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
